Chicken Run
⚠️ IMPORTANT: WEBGL BUILD IS... WELL... WEBGL ⚠️
The WebGL version of Chicken Run is here ONLY for players who can’t run the Windows build. It is not representative of the real game.
WebGL does what WebGL does best: turn shaders pink, break effects, tank performance, and generally act like it’s held together with duct tape.
If you see pink everywhere, missing shading, or weird visual glitches — that’s normal. The gameplay is still there, but the visuals are basically on vacation.
If you can run the Windows version, please play that instead. Your eyes will thank you.
Chicken Run
Chicken Run is a fast‑paced, stylized arcade shooter where you play as a surprisingly angry chicken with an infinite supply of egg‑ammo. Dodge danger, blast enemies, and try not to question why a chicken is more heavily armed than most action heroes.
About the game
This game was created for The Plug Jam 2026. The jam lasted 10 days, but thanks to a catastrophic project corruption that yeeted everything back to day 1, I only had 1 real day to rebuild the entire thing from scratch.
Despite the chaos, Chicken Run delivers tight gameplay, clean readability, and a bright toon‑shaded world full of tall grass, rolling hills, and geometric enemies that definitely exist (just… not in the screenshot above).
Features
- Egg‑powered combat: Fire eggs with left click or right trigger. Infinite ammo. Zero dignity.
- Stylized visuals: Bright colors, dense grass, simple shapes, and a custom toon shader that makes everything pop.
- Fast arcade gameplay: Short, chaotic survival sessions where you either thrive or explode.
- In‑game tutorial: Learn movement, shooting, and how to accept your new life as a poultry‑based FPS protagonist.
- Jam‑built energy: Designed under extreme time pressure after the universe personally attacked my project files.
Controls
- Move: WASD / Left Stick
- Look: Mouse / Right Stick
- Shoot Eggs: Left Mouse Button / Right Trigger
Performance
Let’s be honest: Chicken Run is not a performance monster. The grass is thick, the shading is chunky, and the chicken is doing its best. On my NVIDIA 5070 laptop, it usually sits around 200 FPS — but your mileage may vary depending on:
- how much your GPU fears foliage
- whether your PC likes stylized shaders
- how many eggs you decide to fire at once
If your framerate dips, just pretend it’s a dramatic slow‑motion effect. Works every time.
Development story
Halfway through development, the entire project corrupted itself into oblivion and reset to day 1. With only a single day left, I rebuilt the core mechanics, visuals, shaders, and game feel from scratch. What you’re playing now is the result of that caffeine‑fueled sprint: focused, chaotic, and unapologetically egg‑based.
Credits
- Music: boji21 – amazing tracks that give the game its energy.
- Visual assets: Environment and character assets sourced from the Unity Asset Store.
- Toon shader: Custom toon shader created specifically for this project.
- Gameplay logic & game design: All mechanics, systems, and design by me.
Known issues
- Balance: Some waves may spike in difficulty because tuning takes time and I had… none.
- Minor bugs: Occasional visual or collision quirks may appear. Consider them “features.”
Final thoughts
Chicken Run is a jam‑born experiment in style, speed, and egg‑splosive chaos. If you enjoy it or have feedback, I’d love to hear how your runs went. Thanks for playing — and may your eggs always fly straight.
